Ava Saperstein – Executive Director

Ava has been a staple of the Congregation B’nai Yisrael community for two decades. In 2001 Ava joined CBY as the congregation’s first full-time bookkeeper and saw her role expand and grow, becoming Executive Director in 2007.

Ava spent 15 years as a member of the Board of Directors for Temple Beth Elohim in Brewster, NY. She credits this experience, and her strong financial background, as giving her a unique perspective into the challenges facing congregations today, as well as the relationship between lay leadership and staff. This dynamic, in Ava’s experience, is the key to making a congregation run seamlessly. A hands on leader, Ava’s door is always open and she is willing to step in and help the members of the congregation whenever possible.

She is a Senior member of the National Association of Temple Administration and has a B.A. in Sociology from Queens College.

Ava grew up in Brooklyn, which she calls the Holy Land, and is the proud mother of three adult children: Wendy, Michelle, and David.
