Social Action
The Social Action Committee of Congregation B'nai Yisrael provides
an opportunity for all to become involved in numerous causes and issues,
including both the work of local charitable organizations as well as those
of national and international scope. Our teens are invited to participate
in Midnight Runs in which clothes, bags of food, and a little hot soup
or coffee are delivered to various locations in New York City. We support
the Food PATCH (People Allied to Combat Hunger) program here in Westchester
County by working with the Armonk Food Emporium to collect food on selected
weekends, a High Holiday food drive, weekly collections at Shabbat services,
and donated food baskets. In observance of Hunger Awareness Month, the
temple participated with all the other churches in town to sponsor a hugely
successful Hunger Banquet. Our Giving Gourmets cook meals
for patients who are recovering from illness. At Congregation B'nai
Yisrael, caring about and caring for our fellow human beings is a passion
as well as a mitzvah for us.
