Cheryl Wunch, Cantorial Intern
Cheryl Wunch was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and received her Bachelor’s degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and her Associate’s Degree in Child and Youth Work from Humber College in Toronto. Cheryl grew up at Temple Har Zion in Thornhill, Ontario where she later became a Religious School teacher, as well as the youth advisor. During her years studying as an undergraduate, she was the assistant principal and a teacher at Iyr Hamelech Cngregation. Cheryl also spent time working with children and youth in various capacities, such as group homes and counseling facilities, as well as acting as a youth worker for the Toronto District School Board.
Cheryl has been studying music since she was very young. She is a classically trained singer, and has experience as a camp and religious school songleader and music teacher. Cheryl discovered her love for Jewish music as a camper and then staff member at the Goldman Union Camp Institute in Indiana. She spent a year as the Cantorial Intern for Temple Ohev Sholom in Harrisburg, PA, and a year as the Cantorial Intern for Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh, NY. She has tutored b’nai mitzvah students and taught Judaica and music classes for various congregations in New York City. Cheryl is currently beginning her fourth year in the School of Sacred Music at the Hebrew Union College, and is very excited to begin serving as Cantorial Intern for Congregation B’nai Yisrael. |
