GUEST SPEAKER: Bill Squadron, Assistant Professor of Sports Law at Elon University

Our guest speaker, Bill Squadron, is an assistant professor of sports law at Elon University. As the former founder of SportVision (the inventor of First and Ten - the superimposed yellow line on football fields), former CEO of Bloomberg Sports and Special Counsel, Genius Sports, Bill is one of the foremost experts in sports betting technology, data and analytics.

The way Americans consumes sports is changing. Sports betting is a $200 billion industry. A recent Supreme Court ruling has freed states to legalize sports betting and all the marketing, taxes and regulation that go with it.  It will also change the way Americans consume sports, where fans will begin to bet on their smartphones on how many runs will be scored in the next inning.  This emerging market raises many issues, including gambling addiction, corruption and match-fixing, and the fight for dollars among bookmakers, leagues, states and others.  The conversation will discuss this emerging market and the various issues it raises.
