Together We Mourn

Dear CBY Friends,

Below are two items I think are worth your attention.

First, our congregation’s founding rabbi, Douglas Krantz, and our second president, John Stern, both alerted me to the key behind-the-scenes role that Rabbi Daniel Wolk, who died last week, played in the founding of our congregation. Click here to learn more and for information about a memorial service for Rabbi Wolk.

And second, images of Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s funeral yesterday in Jerusalem are beyond wrenching. Please join us this Friday evening for Shabbat where, at Kaddish, we will read Hersh’s name along with the five Israeli hostages who were murdered just shortly before the IDF found them. At the same time, aid workers are working in impossible conditions to prevent a further spread of polio among Gaza’s children. Of course, there are no easy answers, but this piece, I think, captures the agony of this moment.

On a radically different and very positive note, tomorrow morning marks the long-awaited opening of CBY’s early childhood program. Hats off to Samantha Ettenson who not only runs the program but grew up at CBY.

In friendship,
Rabbi Marc Disick
