Core Concepts

  • Exploring the Jewish past in order to understand the people we have become
  • Investigating key figures in American Jewish history to appreciate the situations they were in and to evaluate the important decisions they made
  • Probing the history of the Jewish homeland from the time of Canaan through the State of Israel so we can deepen our connection to our home away from home

During the year, we will explore Jewish history—from where we came and how we got to where we are today.  Over the course of our journey, our children will put together a timeline to help them understand the grand scope of Jewish history.  As our 5th graders journey throughout the year, they will experience what it was like to be a Jew in different times and places and learn about significant historical figures who are our collective ancestry.

Also, during our 5th grade program our children continue their Hebrew Language Journey and by the end of the year will continue to gain familiarity and fluency with the blessings Avot v’ImahotGevurotKedushahShalom RavSim ShalomMaariv Aravim, and Yotzer.

Skype Hebrew Tutoring & Hebrew Pods

Weekly skype tutoring will also be offered for an additional minimal fee to any CBY student who wants extra support and Hebrew tutoring in addition to what is taught at the JID program.

Hebrew Pods is a new way of teaching Hebrew that was piloted last year. The purpose is to create small groups of students who will meet together with a teacher for a shorter period of time. This will give us more time for JID learning and shorter, but more intense and personal Hebrew learning. All students in the JID program will be pulled out of the JID class for their Hebrew pod.
